Spain’s tennis star Paula Badosa was ecstatic to win a mixed
doubles exhibition match at the US Open. The fourth and the final Grand Slam of
the year will begin from August 26 where players from all over the world will participate
to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
Badosa participated in a mixed doubles exhibition contest
with her boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas as they defeated the pair of America’s
Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton. After that, the former world number two, in a post
on her official account on the social media platform Instagram, expressed delight
over the result and stated that it was the ‘best date ever’.
Badosa will be hoping that her recent form will help her have
an impressive run in the upcoming mega-event. The New York-born star recently
participated in the Cincinnati Open where he journey came to an end in the semifinal
as she lost to America’s Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Before that,
she won the Citi Open after beating Marie Bouzkova in the final with a score of
6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Overall, Badosa does not have a great record while playing at
the Flashing Meadows where her best outing was playing in the second
round.
The former world number two has struggled with fitness
concerns, especially in the last 18 months which forced her to stay out of
action for more part of the 2023. On the other hand, her boyfriend Tsitsipas is
not going through a good phase in his career. His most recent appearance was
during the Cincinnati Open where he was knocked out of the tournament after
losing in the round of 16 to Britain’s Jack Draper with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Just like his girlfriend, Tsitsipas does not have a great record while playing at
the US Open where he has never managed to play in the fourth round and beyond.
