Jessica
Pegula and
Coco Gauff will lead the United States in the
Billie Jean King Cup
against Austria.
The rosters
of the tennis players who will play in the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup playoffs
have been made official, which will take place on April 14 and 15. The teams
will face each other in a single tie that will determine nine winning countries
that will secure their place in the Finals at the end of the season.
Some of the
players who will be part of the tournament this time are
Iga Swiatek, Elena
Rybakina,
Caroline Garcia,
Barbora Krejcikova, and
Bianca Andreescu, who will
lead their respective countries. The American team will have a powerful lineup
with world No. 3 and 6,
Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff.
Madison Keys, world No.
20, and
Danielle Collins, No. 31, will also play for the USA.
Gauff and
Pegula are also an imposing doubles pair, currently ranked No. 3 and No. 5,
respectively, and are joined by
Caty McNally (world No. 19 in doubles). Only
the Czechs Siniakova and Krejcikova appear as a higher-ranked doubles pair who
will compete in the tournament (world No. 1 and 2), although they will not face
each other at the moment.
In this
occasion, United States will face the Austrian team, which will include Julia
Grabher (world No. 93), Sinja Kraus (219th), Barbara Haas (468th), Tamira
Paszek (528th), and Melanie Klaffner (912th). In doubles, the best-ranked
players are Kraus (390th) and Klaffner (402nd).
