Jessica Pegula gave her emotions after the news during the night of NFL player Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest during their Monday Night Football clash with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Hamlin took a hit from Tee Higgins moments before and after standing up, he suddenly collapsed to the ground in one of the scariest moments in recent NFL history with the game suspended until further notice.
Pegula has an interest in the team Hamlin plays for in the Buffalo Bills with her family owning the franchise with a lot of discussion surrounding the American dubbing her the richest player in tennis.
Like many, she was shook up by the incident and said it brings perspective that there is more to like than sport.
"I mean, it's just terrible. Just terrible. Just terrible," she said during the post match press conference at the United Cup. "There's really no words. I'm glad they stopped the game. I think it brings you back to there's a lot bigger things that are more important than sports and games and stuff like that."
"I'm glad they're trying to go support him. But it was pretty scary. I don't really know much else. Obviously it's pretty frantic there right now. I felt sick. It was just terrible. I think everyone felt that way that was watching," she added.
