Elena Rybakina was the favourite in this one because of her incredible level since last week and Indian Wells but
Petra Kvitova finished off a dream week at the
Miami Open with a 7-6(14) 6-2 win.
The first set was one hell of a set with both players having chances to take it but nobody actually getting it done. Rybakina had to save break points in the first game but she was able to do so. The Czech player would break later in the set taking a 5-4 lead but she didn't finish it off as Rybakina managed to break back.
We ended up in a tiebreak and it was a truly iconic tiebreak that will be talked about for many years. Both players had multiple set points but eventually, it was Kvitova who got it done 16-14. It proved the crucial moment of the set because it was pretty predictable that the player taking it will win the second set.
That's how it happened as Rybakina fell apart in the second set with Kvitova dominating the rallies with her baseline game. She would finish off the match 6-2 in the second set to win her biggest trophy in a while. A superb week for Kvitova that came out of nowhere and is probably a surprise to her as well.
