Petra Kvitova is through to the Ostrava Open semi-final after outlasting a very inspired Jil Teichmann 6-4 6-4.
A very interesting match happened in Ostrava where the native Czech Petra Kvitova battled past Teichmann in straight sets. The Swiss player continued playing well after her breakout in Cincinnati and Kvitova had issues early. Teichmann applied some pressure early on Kvitova forcing her to save several break points.
After successfully doing so, Kvitova found her groove and started playing much better. Both of them played very attacking but Kvitova was able to produce some sensational angles from both her forehand and backhand which frustrated Teichmann. Both are left-handed and after some stellar rallies, Kvitova was able to take the first with 6-4.
The 2nd set started much better by Teichmann. She won her service game with ease and broke Kvitova in the very next game. However, she had a stinker after that allowing Kvitova to break back and she never fully recovered. Carried by the crowd Kvitova went on a 4-0 rampage to take a 4-2 lead which in the ned proved enough for the win.
She closed it out with 6-4 moving to the semi-final after a hard-fought battle. She was very good especially on her serve serving 5 out 6 break points she faced. That in the end proved key as she converted 3 out 7 she had as well. Simply put, she was better when it mattered the most.
