Czech tennis fans had to endure a very dramatic battle between Petra Kvitova and Anastasia Potapova in Ostrava as the Czech player prevailed 6-1 6-7(4) 6-3.
Petra Kvitova is one of the favourites in Ostrava because she always played extremely well in front of native fans. Today she looked great early as she completely smashed Potapova 6-1. It was the classical Kvitova display with precise serving, strong play from the baseline and excellent returning. Potapova did not know how to adapt initially but by the end of it, she started figuring it out.
That suit her well in the 2nd set as she played much better. Even so, Kvitova was able to break her midway through to set and take a 4-2 lead. The Russian did not give up and battled back to 4-4 after some stellar tennis even saving break points in the game after.
She had her first set points at 5-4 but Kvitova held on and forced a tiebreak where Potapova endured the Czech player winning it with 7-4. The final set was a thrilling battle that started off better for Potapova. She played excellent taking an early break in the match but Kvitova would pull it back not long after that.
The Russians game kind of eroded after that and Kvitova was able to take control of the match ultimately closing it out with 6-3. A great win for Kvitova agianst a talented player in front of her native crowd and she will be pleased with that.
