Sir Andy Murray is through to the Moselle Open quarterfinal with another fine performance against the big-serving Vasek Pospisil. Murray, a very good returner, made us of his returning skill in this match frustrating Pospisil from start to finish not allowing him to finish off points quickly. The Canadian was never one for long rallies and that was evident today.
From the start, Murray knew exactly what to do to win this match and it proved fruitful early. He had a break point in the first game but failed to use it. That did not discourage him at all, and he continued with his plan of sending deep balls into the field trying to keep Pospisil off balance. That worked and the Brit took a 5-3 lead late in the set.
Another break would seal it with 6-3 and Murray looked en route to an easy win. He complicated matters a bit in the 2nd set with some sloppy play and Pospisil was able to take a 3-1 lead early. That snapped Murray out of it and he returned to playing great tennis again and it was game over for Pospisil. The Brit racked up 5 games in a row to close it out in two, 6-3 6-3 for the Moselle Open quarterfinal.
Murray hit 6 more aces than Pospisil, he hit his first serve more often and won 62 % of the 2nd serve points on Pospisil serve. That proved like a very good combo for the Brit who moves on to rare quarterfinal in recent years.
