Karolina Pliskova moved on to the semifinals at the Western & Southern Open on Friday night, after
Paula Badosa was forced to retire in the second set due to injury.
Pliskova advanced after a 7-5 2-0[RET] victory, in a match that was cut short after 74 minutes. Despite following into a 0-4 hole in the first set, the Czech star reeled off five consecutive games before eventually claiming the first set.
The second set saw the fifth seed race to a 2-0 lead, before Badosa decided to call it quits due to an undisclosed injury. The World No.4 will face the unseeded
Jil Teichmann in a semifinal clash on Saturday, as the 24-year old Swiss upset compatriot
Belinda Bencic in straight sets earlier in the evening.
