Karolina Pliskova reached the next round of the Roland Garros but her play left many things to be desired against a player ranked way below her.
Karolina Pliskova had to dig deep in order to solve the Sherif mystery which presented itself to her on Tuesday at the Roland Garros. While she successfully cracked the code and moved on her play left a lot to be desired and after the match, Pliskova was very defensive of it saying:
"Let's not talk about my level. I think there is big room for improvement, but it is what it is and I'm in the next round, which counts."
Pliskova is coming off a solid outing in Rome where she failed to defend her title due to injury and asked about the state of it she said:
"I was not really thinking about it at all," she said of the injury. "It's not 100%, but it's okay. I think nobody is really 100% here."
The match was played under difficult conditions as many have this week and speaking on that Pliskova gave her insight:
"I think in these conditions it's tougher than normally or even on hardcourts. It was super wet, raining half of the match. It wasn't easy to kill a ball, and especially if everything jumps this high.
Her next opponent will be Jelena Ostapenko a player she knows all too well. Speaking of that match she said:
"With Jelena, we had some good matches, some strange matches. I think she's a lot up and down but for sure she can just play well. From the baseline, she can really hit the ball. She can make a lot of winners, but also a lot of mistakes.
