Pliskova second to advance from Purple Group at the WTA Finals joining Svitolina

Karolina Pliskova advanced into the semifinals at the WTA Finals when she defeated Simona Halep in the last Round Robin match.

Before the battle for semifinals could begin in Purple Group, Elina Svitolina and another substitute at the WTA Finals, Sofia Kenin played a match that couldn't change anything in the standings.

Svitolina did not hesitate again as she did not lose a set in Shenzhen yet, trying to defend the title from last year.

There was only one more place left in the semifinals and so Karolina Pliskova and Simona Halep had to try really hard to get there. And it was Pliskova who started the match superbly, winning the first set 6-0 in just 21 minutes.

But Halep did not give up and kept fighting in the second as she leveled the score after winning it 6-2. Although Halep got an early lead in the third, winning 2-0 and 30-0, she lost 5 games in a row to gift Pliskova decisive lead 5-2. And so it is Karolina Pliskova who earned 2nd point and advanced into the semifinals in Shenzhen.
