Karolina Pliskova opened her US Open campaign with a dominant 62 minute display which saw her defeat Kalinina 6-4 6-0.

The 1st round match of Pliskova was a quick one as the Czech player defeated her opponent in only 62 minutes to advance to the 2nd round of the US Open. After the match she spoke about the match:
"I think this match, especially the first set was in couple periods. "I think I started not really great with the first game, but after, I was able to somehow, like step in the court, was playing quite aggressive, so I was doing a lot of points."
Pliskova looked much more comfortable than last week which she attributed to playing on the centre court which is much more appealing despite the empty stands. Despite the dominant display Pliskova admitted that at times she was shaky and things could have been different:
"I thought actually I played quite good until 4-1. Even after I think I could still make, there were a couple close calls and balls which I could make, so I think I could still go up to 5-2 at least. But somehow it was a little bit shaky there."
Her next opponent will be Caroline Garcia and on the match Pliskova said:
"We’ve played couple times. I think she's very good player. She's not seeded now. I think she should be or maybe in the future she's going to be. But very dangerous player I think. Especially on these fast courts."
