Puig calls on ATP and WTA to prioritise player safety amid shocking abuse suffered by Townsend

Former player Monica Puig has come out in support of Taylor Townsend after she got a lot of hate on social made, calling on the ATP and WTA to protect players.

The American lost in the 3rd round of the Rome Open after a sensational comeback by her opponent. It resulted in her receiving a lot of hate on social media, some of which he posted. The content of those messages is rather shocking and Puig has come out in support of Townsend calling for more action by the ATP and WTA:

"I am alarmed and disgusted by this...@atptour @wta we need to start doing better to protect our players from this. Not only is this a mental health issue but a security issue as well. In today's world this CANNOT be ignored."
