Yulia Putintseva became the 2nd player to secure a quarterfinal spot at the US Open after her victory against Petra Martic.
Yulia Putintseva booked a
US Open quarterfinal spot after she defeated
Petra Martic in three sets. The match started off in great fashion for Putintseva who played extremely aggressive tennis hitting all of her shots. Martic had no response and she found herself being down 5-0 rather quickly. After that Putintseva slowed down a bit allowing Martic to win some games but it wouldn't be enough for a comeback.
The 2nd set was when
Martic dominated as Putintseva struggled immensely. Midway through the set she called a medical timeout which proved a success as she started to play much better afterwards. She did not try to exert to much energy in the 2nd set surrendering it 6-2.
Yulia came alive in the 3rd set where she once again played the aggressive style of play she played in the 1st set. Once again Martic did not know how to respond and quickly found herself being down 4-0.
Putintseva looked determined but even she dropped her serve once more to give Martic a little hope. Martic took the opportunity to make 5-4 but she had to break Yulia once more. She failed to do so and Putintseva closed out the match reaching the
US Open quarterfinal.
