Ekaterina Alexandrova is playing her best WTA 1000 event book a spot in the semifinals with a win over
Amanda Anisimova 6-4 6-3.
The American Anisimova is having a very strong year with some consistent play across many events. She also had some injury concerns but overall she is showing the level that got her into the French Open semifinal in 2019. Today she ran into a very inspired Alexandrova who is playing that way all week long. The Russian has always been a tricky player capable of great tennis yet things never clicked before.
This week they did and the result has been superb. Anisimova opened a bit better as she struck the ball cleanly and precisely. She was up 3-1 and everything looked fine in reality it wasn't. Alexandrova soon started to find solutions forcing Anisimova out of her comfort zone. That adversity harmed Anisimova and eventually, Alexandrova battled back to 4-4
Eventually, she finished off the set with 6-4. The 2nd set was quite similar with Anisimova once again leaving many chances on the table. Had Alexandrova served a bit better she would have had an easier time. She completely outplayed the American on return winning 12 of 16 2nd serve points and finishing off the match with 6-3.
