During the fifth day of play the players in Nanchang spent up to 9 hours and 49 minutes in four battles for a place in the semifinals.

Nina Stojanovic faced Kateryna Kozlova in the first Friday match. Kozlova interrupted a streak of 14 won sets in a row of Stojanovic in the first set, winning it 7-5 in a tie-break. But Stojanovic fought back and won the second and third set 6-4. She added her eighth consecutive win to her account. At the Jiangxi Open she aims to win the second consecutive title after the Changsha tournament.
The second match lasted nearly 2 hours, but was still the shortest during the fifth day of play. It saw two Chinese players, Lin Zhu and Shuai Peng battle for spot in semifinals. Zhu had a chance to take a revenge for the quarter-finals in 2017, but the older player didn't give her a chance and won in two sets again.
The third game was the most interesting on the paper and so it was on the court. Rebecca Peterson and Bronx Open winner Magda Linette spent up to 2 hours and 55 minutes on the court. The fifth seeded Swedish won the first set 6-3 in 35 minutes, which was the shortest set. In the second set, however, Linette equalized the score, winning after an hour and three minutes 7-3 in a tie-break. In the third decisive set, Peterson won 7-5 in a tie-break after an hour and 17 minutes.
In the last match, Elena Rybakina as fourth-seeded and Viktorija Golubic as sixth faced each other. Rybakina added 6th victory from the last 7 matches, winning against Golubic in three sets 6-4, 3-6 and 7-5. After the match she said:
"It was a good match. It was a tough one, because we were waiting all day," Rybakina said. "It was very difficult, humid conditions, but I'm happy to get through to the semifinal."
