Quarter-final results at the Zhengzhou Open, outsiders through to semi-finals

The first-seeded and the second player in the WTA ranking Karolina Pliskova played in the first quarterfinal match. Pliskova had already started a match with Hercog on third day, which she finished in about half an hour during the fifth day, so she could play her quarterfinal match with Kenin, who advanced to the quarterfinals already on Wednesday. The players spent almost two hours on the court, but the match ended better for the Czech after winning it 6-4, 4-6 and 6-1.

The second match was the least interesting in terms of ranking. Neither Tomljanovic nor Zheng were seeded at the tournament as they fought for a seat in the semifinals. Tomljanovic managed to defeat Bertens in the second round match that was played on the same day. The players spent more than two and a half hours on the court and the winner of the match was Australian when she won 6-1, 6-7, 6-4.

In the third match, it was about the seventh and fourth seeded players at the tournament. We could see another almost three-hour match and another three-set battle. The winner of this match was Petra Martic, who managed to beat Aryna Sabalenka 7-5, 5-7 and 6-4.

In the last match we could see the biggest surprise. Kristina Mladenovic managed to beat Elina Svitolina, who was semi-finalist at the US Open, in three sets. Mladenovic plays well at the tournament in China and after winning 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3, she meets Petra Martic in the semifinals.
