The Mubadala Citi
DC Open has added some star power to their annual event, as former Grand Slam champion
Emma Raducanu is among those set to appear in Washington this summer.
Raducanu has been announced as the latest entrant at the DC Open, alongside former Wimbledon runner-up
Ons Jabeur and 2017 US Open runner-up
Madison Keys. The The WTA 500 event kicks off the North American hard court summer and begins on July 29 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center.
DC Open to occur at the same time as Olympics
Raducanu, alongside Jabeur, opted to skip the upcoming summer
Olympic Games in Paris. The tennis event will begin on July 27, 2024, and several ATP and WTA stars announced their intentions to skip the quadrennial event, which will be held on the clay courts of Roland Garros. The British superstar stated it would be difficult to make the transition from grass back to clay, and therefore decided to sit out on this summer's Olympics.
Jabeur cited the same reason for withdrawing from Olympic contention, stating she made her decision after consulting with her medical team. The Tunisian will not be the only superstar competing in Washington in lieu of the Olympics, as Anna Kalinskaya and Paula Badosa have also been confirmed for the field.
The men's event will also see some ATP stars competing on the hard courts of Washington instead of the Parisian red clay. American Frances Tiafoe and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov have been announced as entrants in the men's draw.
