Emma Raducanu shined once again at the
US Open by smashing
Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-0 6-1 in a little over an hour.
Mats Wilander said Emma Raducanu was the real deal and he is not wrong. The British player proved that once again by an excellent performance against Sara Sorribes Tormo. The Spanish player, notorious for being a fighter and not easily bested got quite literally smashed by Raducanu.
From the start, the British player was ready for any tricks the Spaniard had. Slices were anticipated well and most of the time followed up by a strongly hit baseline shot. A lot of those shots threw Sorribes Tormo off balance and Raducanu was able to hit many winners.
Sorribes Tormo tried to disrupt the rhythm with slices and change of pace but it did not work. Raducanu bombarded away winning the first set with 6-0. She came pretty close to a double bagel but Sorribes Tormo held firm to win at least one again avoiding utter embarrassment.
Raducanu hit 22 winners to 16 unforced errors and it proved more than enough to defeat a rather passive Sorribes Tormo. A dream run for Raducanu further continues with a 2nd seek berth similarly to her Wimbledon run earlier in the year.
