Emma Raducanu continues to shape her 2025 schedule and has confirmed her participation in the WTA 250 Singapore Tennis Open, which replaces the former Hua Hin event in Thailand. The former world No. 10 will compete in the tournament, which begins just days after the conclusion of the Australian Open.

Raducanu recently aggravated an injury that forced her to withdraw from the ASB Classic in Auckland. According to the British player, a back issue prevented her from being ready in time for the tournament, which started on December 30, meaning her first appearance will be in the main draw of the Aussie Open.

"Tried my best to be ready," Raducanu told the WTA website as she confirmed her withdrawal. "I love Auckland and the fans here, but unfortunately, I picked up a back niggle and won’t be ready in time."

Next Stop for Raducanu

The 2021 US Open champion has been plagued by injuries since her breakthrough at Flushing Meadows. In 2023, she underwent three surgeries (both wrists and an ankle) to address recurring issues and made her comeback in 2024, climbing the rankings from outside the top 300 to the top 60. However, she had a limited schedule, competing in only 13 tournaments throughout the season.

Raducanu aims for more consistency this year and has hired renowned fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura, who previously worked with Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka. She hopes his expertise will help her better manage her physical workload. Nakamura traveled with her to Auckland and will also be in Melbourne for the year’s first major.

Currently ranked world No. 60, Raducanu hopes to be in good physical condition to compete at the Singapore Open. This event, which was held from 1986 to 1990 (and again in 1994), has returned to the calendar after a long hiatus. Singapore also hosted the WTA Finals from 2014 to 2018, with champions like Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki, and Elina Svitolina.

The Singapore draw will feature several notable players, including world No. 14 Anna Kalinskaya, former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, Elise Mertens, and Xinyu Wang. "The player field is looking good for the tournament, and I believe we are going to see some great matches in both singles and doubles," commented tournament co-director Laura Ceccarelli.
