Emma Raducanu was supposed to face Serena Williams today at the Western & Southern Open but the match got postponed till Tuesday.
So there is a bit of outrage in Cincinnati and it comes after the event elected to postpone the match between Raducanu and Serena Williams. The event did not specify a clear reason as to why but a spokesperson framed the reason as 'on account of a number of factors related to scheduling.' It's very vague which got fans to speculate it might have to do with the ticker prices.
Tuesday's ticket prices are generally higher than those of Monday because bigger names start playing on that day and they draw larger crowds. Those that want to see Williams in possibly her final match in Cincinnati will now have to buy Tuesday tickets as well. A whole bunch of them bought Monday's tickets only to see Serena play but it won't happen now.
There was a public outrage because of the change with many people travelling into Cincinnati specifically for the match as well. It's just a whole mess that left many fans unhappy as it should, particularly as there doesn't seem to be any indication that the tickets will be reimbursed. Some of the fans' reactions on social media were:
“Came in from out of town to see her play. Now we won’t get that chance. I’m heartbroken.”
“This is so disappointing. After spending HUNDREDS of dollars watching Serena, the schedule gets changed the night before? Been coming to watch Serena Williams play in Cincinnati since the mid 2000’s. Watching the GOAT play one last time would have been a dream come true.
“I am pretty peeved off. I bought tickets and now had to pay 3x as much for Tuesday tickets. I doubt my Monday tickets will be able to resell. There better be some reimbursement.”
