The women’s singles final of the US Open 2023 was reportedly watched by a record crowd.
The fourth and final Grand Slam is set to conclude on Sunday and on Saturday, the crowd witnessed a mouthwatering finale in the women’s singles category.
It was America’s young tennis star Coco Gauff who ended up lifting the US Open for the first time in her career as she defeated the newly-crowned world number one Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
According to the new information released by the USTA, the match was witnessed by more than 28 thousand people in the arena. Interestingly, the arena had the capacity to host just 23, 859 spectators.
Gauff’s victory was just the continuation of her winning run which started just before the US Open as she also won the Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open) after defeating Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Before that, Gauff also qualified for the final of the National Bank Canadian Open where she fell just short and lost to fellow American Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
