The women’s singles final of the
US Open 2023 was reportedly
watched by a record crowd.
The fourth and final Grand Slam is set to conclude on Sunday
and on Saturday, the crowd witnessed a mouthwatering finale in the women’s
singles category.
It was America’s young tennis star
Coco Gauff who ended up
lifting the US Open for the first time in her career as she defeated the
newly-crowned world number one Belarus’
Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 2-6,
6-3, 6-2.
According to the new information released by the USTA, the
match was witnessed by more than 28 thousand people in the arena. Interestingly,
the arena had the capacity to host just 23, 859 spectators.
Gauff’s victory was just the continuation of her winning run
which started just before the US Open as she also won the Cincinnati Open
(Western & Southern Open) after defeating Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova
in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Before that, Gauff
also qualified for the final of the National Bank Canadian Open where she fell
just short and lost to fellow American Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-2, 5-7,
7-5.
