Report: Emma Raducanu set to receive additional security at Indian Wells after stalker incident in Dubai

Emma Raducanu is set to receive extra security akin to the Secret Service at the upcoming Indian Wells Open. The 22-year-old, who was once regarded as the next big thing after winning the US Open at the age of just 18 back in 2021, has been recently involved in an awkward situation.

Raducanu’s most recent participation in an event was in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where her journey ended in the second round when she lost to Karolina Muchova in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. During that match, Raducanu was reduced to tears because of an ‘exhibited fixated behaviour’ of a stalker. Following that incident, WTA released a detailed statement and explained what steps they had taken to protect the player.

"On Monday, February 17, Emma Raducanu was approached in a public area by a man who exhibited fixated behaviour. This same individual was identified in the first few rows during Emma's match on Tuesday at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and subsequently ejected,” said the statement. "He will be banned from all WTA events pending a threat assessment. Player safety is our top priority, and tournaments are advised on security best practices for international sporting events. The WTA is actively working with Emma and her team to ensure her well-being and provide any necessary support. We remain committed to collaborating with tournaments and their security teams worldwide to maintain a safe environment for all players."

As per the latest report published by English media outlet Daily Mirror, Raducanu has now been assured of more security in the upcoming Indian Wells. The report stated that the former world number 10 will have the services of an ex-secret services agent who will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the player in the competition. The tournament will be played from March 02 to March 16, and some top players in the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
