Former Venus and Serena Williams coach Rick Macci praised the parents of the legendary tennis players, calling them the "Oracene Price on the Parents Mt. Rushmore." The American also highlighted the Williams sisters, who followed the strict life lessons of their parents.
Macci is recognized as one of the most prominent coaches of all time, having trained five former world No. 1 players and several Grand Slam champions. Throughout his career, he worked with Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, Jennifer Capriati, and the Williams sisters. Together, his players won a total of 52 Grand Slam singles titles.
The 69-year-old coach trained the Williams sisters during their early steps at the Boca Raton Academy in Florida. Macci started working with them when Venus was only 11 and Serena 10 (from 1991 to 1995).
The legendary American coach took to X to share an anecdote about the Williams sisters, noting that despite challenges, they never made excuses. According to him, excuses were "illegal" in the Williams family.
"They never made excuses. Excuses were illegal in the Williams family. The life lessons Richard and Oracene taught daily are on the Parents Mt. Rushmore. Even more so the two little warriors that Heard every word but even more important Listened. @serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams," Macci tweeted.
Macci also mentioned that the sisters were always inseparable and shared a bond both on and off the court. During their careers, Venus and Serena won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together and Olympic gold three times (2000, 08', 12').
"They never fought as kids. Two peas in a pod. Always skipping, holding hands, smiling, playing with dolls, and stealing her food. On court, they always fought. Two pea shooters. Still smiling, playing against the enemy but stealing points instead of food. @serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams," Macci posted on X.
"Some days the climb feels endless, but remember: every step forward is a victory. Keep pushing, because the view from the top is worth every struggle!" he later captioned alongside a video of an early training session with both players.
