Angelique Kerber found a way to battle past Daria Kasatkina at the BNP Paribas Open and after the match, she explained just how.
Angelique Kerber and Daria Kasatkina played many matches against each other and this last one was very special. The duo actually practiced together ahead of the event which makes this match even more interesting. It started off well for Kerber who dominated in the first set. Kasatkina dominated in the 2nd set and the 3rd was a close one won by Kerber.
After the match Kerber noted the difficulty of it probably due to the familiarity of both with the other's game:
"It's always tough to play against Daria. We've played so many matches in the past... and today was a bit of a rollercoaster match for me. I played very well in the first set and she played well in the second, so I was just trying to stay mentally strong and to play point by point."
That approach worked in the end with Kerber able to pull away very late in the 3rd set winning the match. She herself noted the closeness of the affair saying:
"At the end, it was just one or two points that decided the match and I'm happy to be through. I'm feeling good... I'm just trying to get through as far as I can, playing good tennis again."
Keber will play Ajla Tomljanovic next and she said:
"It doesn't matter against who I'm playing. It's more about how I feel, that I'm ready for every point, that I play my game like in the last few months and few weeks, so this is more my goal."
