Elena-Gabriela Ruse has claimed her maiden WTA Tour singles title at the 2021 Hamburg European Open after seeing off Andrea Petkovic in the final.
Ruse came from qualifying which was followed up with victories over sixth seed, Jil Teichmann, fourth seed Danielle Collins and Dayana Yastremska who was top seed and in action for the first time since her drug ban was rescinded.
This was in making the final in which she saw off Petkovic 7-6(2), 6-4 with 73% on her first serve, 95% winning percentage on second serve and 4/12 on break points.
A first tournament since Wimbledon and it goes the way of the Romanian in a brilliant run throughout culminating in a title.
