It was a good day for Kasatkia and Kuznetsova in Rome as they both advanced to the next round with straight-sets victories.
Daria Kasatkina faced off against
Katerina Siniakova and the Russian had no issues in that match. From the early going it was clear Kasatkina was the better player as she demolished Siniakova to start the match. She won game after game to take a 5-0 lead before Siniakova won her first game. She managed to make a mini-run of two games but that would be all as Daria won the 1st set 6-2.
The 2nd set was an up and down affair for both player's as Kasatkina once again took the early 2-0 lead. Siniakova fought back bravely to make it 2-2 even taking a 3-2 lead with a chance to make it 4-2. She failed to win her service game allowing Daria to make it 3-3. From there on it was the Russian who played and ultimately won with 6-3.
The 2nd match between
Kontaveit and Kuznetsova was much tougher on both players and full of twists and turns. The first set was Kontaivet's as she played better throughout and took it 6-3. The 2nd set was a calm one for the majority of the time as both player's won their service games with ease. Late in the set, Kuznetsova broke Kontaveit to take a 5-4 lead. She served for the set but failed to win the game making it 5-5. She broke Anett once more and finally captured the 2nd set with 7-5.
After that Kontaveit completely combusted. First, she lost her serve immediately at the start of the 3rd to go down 1-3. From there on we saw several more breaks by both player's before we arrived at 5-3 to Kuznetsova. She decided to end it quickly which she ultimately did a 6-3 final set victory.
