Victoria Azarenka continued her great restart run by defeating Venus Williams in Rome and after the match, she said how she adapted to the court change well.
Victoria Azarenka continued her good play even on clay as she defeated Venus Williams 7-6(7) 6-2. It was far from perfect from Azarenka but she was content with the way she played as it was the 1st match on clay. After the match she spoke about how she adapted well:
"Different surface was definitely challenging, but I feel like I adapted very well. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, I knew I wasn’t going to play a perfect game today, but it was all about trying to find the right intention of what to do today. I think it worked out okay."
Azarenka spoke about the match saying it was a good match to have in order to assimilate quicker to the clay courts and the conditions of play:
"I felt that this was a great match for me to figure it out, the first match on clay. Venus played a really good match, it was good to see her also adapting to clay, changing and trying different shots. So, I’m pretty happy."
It won't get any easier for Azarenka who will face
Sofia Kenin next and speaking about that match she said:
"It’s going to be an interesting match because Sonya’s been my doubles partner for the last two tournaments. We know each other quite well."
She elaborated further on that matchup:
"She’s a great player, she’s obviously been playing exceptional this year. I feel like I’m playing all these players I’ve lost to before, so I’m kind of given an opportunity to redeem myself!"
