Rybakina gets the W ✅ 🇰🇿 Elena Rybakina halts 2021 finalist Azarenka to make her first fourth round appearance at #IndianWells!
Elena Rybakina displayed her amazing talent on Monday night as she ousted former World No.1 Viktoria Azarenka at the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells, booking her spot in the round of 16.
The 17th seed was superb on serve, winning 26 out of 30 points behind her first serve in the 6-3 6-4 victory. In addition to hitting five aces, the Kazakhstan native saved the lone break point faced in their third round encounter.
Rybakina never looked troubled in their one hour and 34 minute encounter, relentlessly attacking the Azarenka serve before seizing the crucial break in each set. This was sufficient for the 22-ear old to seize control of the match, before eventually securing her spot in the round of 16 at Indian Wells for the first time.
With her second Top 20 win of the season in her pocket, Rybakina will face Swiss star Viktorija Golubic in the fourth round.
