Reigning Wimbledon champion
Elena Rybakina has achieved a feat accomplished only by WTA legend
Serena Williams, as the Kazakh star became the first player since Williams at the 2020 US Open to record four matches with at least 10 aces in the same tournament.
Rybakina hit 10 aces in her dominant victory over Martina Trevisan in their quarterfinal clash at the
Miami Open. Previously, she had 14 aces against Anna Kalinskaya in her Miami opener, fired 12 aces past Paula Badosa in the third round, and also had 10 aces in a round of 16 win over Elise Mertens.
With the courts being noticeably faster in Miami, Rybakina's big-serving game has benefitted as is evident in the ace category.
"I'm trying to go more [for the serve], but I think here, after the bounce, the ball is a bit faster," admitted the 23-year old. "That's why I can get maybe more free points. But still, I would say that it's kind of returnable, but yeah, a bit faster than in Indian Wells."
