Reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina attained a new career-high ranking on Monday, finally reach World No.6, which is where she should have been after lifting the SW19 title last year.
Rybakina, ranked World No.23 last summer, claimed her maiden Grand Slam title at the Wimbledon Championships. However, due to the WTA sanctioning Wimbledon by removing ranking points from last year's tournament, the Kazakhstani didn't gain much movement ranking-wise following her triumph.
If the points from Wimbledon had been included, then Rybakina would have immediately risen to World No.6, a position that she now holds almost a year after her Wimbledon title run.
Rybakina is on the verge of breaking into the top 5 for the first time in her career, as she sits only 150 points behind World No.5 Coco Gauff. Both women are competing at this year's Rome Open, with their rankings heavily dependent on their potential outcomes.
