Elena Rybakina and Shuai Zhang were the successful players in the semifinals at the 2020 Hobart International.
The first match in Hobart on Friday saw 4th seeded Zhang playing against 5th seeded Kudermetova for the place in the final. The Russian was more rested before the match as she did not have to play her quarterfinal match after Garbine Muguruza withdrew.
However, that did not seem to be an advantage in the match. The Chinese player defeated her opponent in just 66 minutes 6-3, 6-4 to reach the final in Hobart.
The second match offered much more excitement. Players battled for the second spot in the finals for more than 2 hours. Heather Watson who previously defeated the first-seeded Elise Mertens faced third-seeded Elena Rybakina.
Rybakina is playing in a great form in 2020. Last week she
reached the final in Shenzhen and this week she did it again in Hobart. In the semifinals, Rybakina defeated Watson 6-3, 4-6 and 6-4. She will move already to the 26th place in the WTA Ranking what will be her career-high.
