The Omnium Banque Nationale Canadian Open women’s semifinal has
been postponed with consistent rain.
The second semifinal of the competition was scheduled to take
place on Saturday evening in Montreal between
Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan and
Russia’s
Liudmila Samsonova.
The match will now be played on Sunday morning whereas the
final will also be played on the same day later.
The development will mean that the winner of the match will
be at a disadvantage as she will be playing two full matches in a single day.
America’s Jessica Pegula has already cemented her place in
the final of the competition after beating the world number one Poland’s Iga Swiatek
with a score of 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
Rybakina booked her place in the last-four after getting the
better of Daria Kasatkina of Russia with a score of 5-7, 7-5, 7-6.
On the other hand, Samsonova registered her spot in the semifinal
of the tournament after thrashing Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in straight sets
with a score of 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinal.
