Elena Rybakina defeated last year's finalist Victoria Azarenka in Indian Wells however the player from Kazakhstan was not happy with the way her opponent behaved during the match.
Rybakina took major exception to Azarenka stopping play midway through the match early in the 2nd set when she broke down crying. Play stopped for a couple of minutes until Azarenka found composure and resumed playing. Rybakina asked the umpire what had happened as the umpire checked on her moments before but she did not get a response as Azarenka didn't say anything except 'I'm sorry'.
Speakign after the match, Rybakina said:
"No one understood what happened. If she would call physio or doctor, it's one thing. But we stop for couple of minutes, then we continue to play. I guess the rules are not like this. You have to give warning or something. I'm not saying I want something back for her, but it's just the rules. Also hitting the ball out of the stands, I just know what happens if I do it."
