Aryna Sabalenka and Veronika Kudermetova won in the semifinals to set up the finals clash.
Aryna Sabalenka continued where she left off in 2020, winning matches in dominant fashion. This time around she defeated Maria Sakkari in the Abu Dhabi semifinals 6-3 6-2. Sakkari has been a very consistent performer this week playing good tennis most of the times. Today she was no match for Sabalenka who took control of the match early and never allowed it to slip from her grasp. Sabalenka dominated with her serve hitting 8 aces and winning 4 of 9 break points she had.
In the finals, she will play against Veronika Kudermetova who also put forward a strong showing in the semifinals against Kostyuk. The first set was an up and down affair for both players as we saw many twists and turns. Kostyuk took the 3-1 lead before Kudermetova won 5 games in a row to make it 5-3. It did not end there as we ended up in a tiebreak where Kostyuk squandered a set point before Kudermetova used her third.
The 2nd set opened strongly for Kudermetova who jumped out to a 3-0 lead which she maintained before closing out the match with 6-4.
