Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens cruised to the quarterfinals of the Upper Austria Ladies' following strong victories on Thursday.

Aryna Sabalenka continued her great run that started in Ostrava where she won the title and today against Voegele she was more than impressive. The 68-minute match ended with the Belarussian winning 6-0 6-3. The result of the first set indicates a very dominating performance and it was thanks to some stellar serving. Voegele could not do much and she simply had no response to the strong baseline play Sabalenka posses so she capitulated rather easily in the 2nd set as well. Sabalenka will be glad to continue her great run as she eyes yet another trophy.
The final match of the day was between Mertens and Zvonareva. The opening set was a very exciting set where Mertens had a convincing lead early thanks to some stellar play but Zvonareva came back a bit to lessen the damage. She could not revert the score so she ended up losing the opening set 6-4. The 2nd was a very hard-fought battle where Mertens had chances to pull away but ultimately it was Zvonareva who held the lead for the majority of the set and she won it 7-5. The final set was dominated by Mertens who broke Zvonareva several times before ending the set 6-2. The whole match lasted two and a half hours and it was not easy for Mertens but she is a trough and she will be happy about it.
