Richard Gasquet and
Vasek Pospisil won their quarterfinal matches in Sofia booking spots in the semifinal of the event.
Vasek Pospisil continued his solid indoor run with a strong victory against
John Millman whom he beat 6-3 6-2 in 74 minutes of play. It was a very good display from the Canadian who controlled the match from the start against an opponent that has been playing very well ever since
his Astana Open victory. The key to victory for Vasek was his serve which worked to perfection in this one. He hit 5 aces to go along with a strong winning percentage on his serve. Millman struggled immensely on his 2nd serve winning only about a third of those points and that was more than enough for Pospisil to win the match and advance to another semifinal.
The final match of the day was played between Gasquet and Caruso. The Italian played great
yesterday beating Auger-Aliassime in straight sets and today he continued playing well. Besides a weaker serving game early where he had to save several break points he served and played well often winning games without dropping a point. He could not match Gasquet when receiving so the score remained tied. After a long battle, we arrived in the tiebreak where initially Caruso had the upper hand but Gasquet consolidated in time to come back and win it 7-4.
The 2nd set continued with both players playing well and Caruso holding his serve. Midway through the set Gasquet finally broke through taking the 5-2 lead but when he served for the match at 5-3 he lost his serve allowing Caruso to tie it 5-5. He carved out a break point at 6-5 and converted it to win the match.
