It took 85 minutes for Aryna Sabalenka to reach her second consecutive Grand Slam semifinal, as the Belarusian made short work of reigning French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals of the 2021 US Open.
The World No.2 looked confident in her 6-1 6-4 victory over Krejcikova, advancing to a second straight Major semifinal after reaching the same stage at Wimbledon earlier this year.
Sabalenka was aggressive from the start, breaking Krejcikova in her first service game to go up 2-0. The 23-year old dictated play with her powerful groundstrokes, going for her shots and forcing her Czech opponent to remain defensive as she ran away with the first set.
The second seed lowered her intensity a bit in the second set, as some errors began to creep into her game. However, she was able to obtain another break, before serving out the match to advance to her maiden semifinal at Flushing Meadows.
Awaiting Sabalenka in the next round is Canadian wonderkid Leylah Fernandez, who's dream run continues as she upset fifth seed Elina Svitolina to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal.
