Sakkari takes aim at criticism from 'Twitter journalists' after comeback Parma win: "They don't know how hard this life is"

Maria Sakkari is number one seed at the Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma but has been through two three set ties so far against Kateryna Baindl and Arantxa Rus.

Sakkari is the top name in the field this week but post match took time to discuss some of the criticism levelled at her and other WTA players about the level of the tour and for example the Greek struggling at times against lower ranked players.

She said they don't understand the struggles and respect should be given to all players on tour regardless of position or status.

"I disagree with Twitter journalists who criticise players without being in our position. They don’t know how hard this life is. You have to respect all the players because you don't know what they are going through," said Sakkari to Alessandro Nizegorodcew for Spaziotennis.com in Parma.
