It all begins with Johanna Konta, the number two seed who will face Marie Bouzkova. The Briton has enjoyed a successful return to form; after having a woeful time on court since the US Open; where she has hardly played due to injury.
This was shown with defeats to Ons Jabeur in Melbourne and Oceane Dodin in St Petersburg; but she has accrued a run together this week; which might stand her in good stead for the rest of the year.
Victories over tough opponents in Kim Clijsters, Tatjana Maria and latterly Anastasia Potapova who she defeated in an absolute marathon last night 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 fighting back from 5-2 down in the final set to show those battling qualities.
Bouzkova on the other hand has defeated Kristina Kucova, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova and Yafan Wang en route; but hasn't really faced a huge test yet; while she may get it with Konta, it could be a surprise late exit for Konta with the Czech ace playing well.
Then it is the turn of Elina Svitolina who not as dramatically as Konta was lacking serious form going into this past week but has turned it round; with some excellent displays with the last being against Leylah Fernandez who reached the final in Acapulco. A number one vs number two seed battle could await in the final which will be a potentially quality tie.
Arantxa Rus awaits in the semi's who defeated the sixth seed Rebecca Peterson after impressing against Lauren Davis; she has played one less game than Svitolina which could play into her hands but many will be expecting the Ukrainian to win through.
