Serena and Venus Williams set to finally reunite in US Open Women's Doubles after Wimbledon false start

Serena and Venus Williams will play the US Open Women's Doubles after receiving a wildcard to play in the tournament which saw the former retire in 2022 when she was 'evolving' away from the sport after her loss to Ajla Tomljanovic.
She played for the first time at the event since then winning through to the Quarter-Finals with Carlos Alcaraz at the 2026 US Open mixed doubles which saw her produce some epic moments and was a real star of the show before they were finally defeated.
But now fans will get to see her at least once more this tournament. Unlike Venus, she will not play singles this year which perhaps comes as some semblance of a surprise given that she did so at Wimbledon. But perhaps given her loss to Maya Joint and the subsequent injury problems she then went through perhaps it is not a huge surprise that she has decided not to play in the tournament.
Serena returns but not in singles
The 44-year-old continues to ramp up her activity on tour after a nearly four-year hiatus away from tennis. Before her mixed doubles appearance on Tuesday, Williams last played at the US Open in 2022. She is a six-time US Open and 23 Grand Slam champion started her comeback at Queen's Club in June in doubles with Victoria Mboko.

But she had to withdraw after Mboko was injured in the singles match. She also competed in Berlin with doubles partner Karolina Muchova and received a wildcard to compete at Wimbledon where she lost in the first round to Maya Joint. She injured her knee during the match and had to withdraw alongside her doubles debut with Venus Williams.
The sisters played their first doubles match together since that 2022 US Open in the Cincinnati Open, but they lost a first round thriller to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns. It will be the 10th time they have played together at the US Open having won the 1999 and 2009 titles.

- I’m not quite sure what’s happening with Sabalenka but she is horrible on court when she’s losing (which is a lot lately).
