Serena Williams has now entered Cincinnati in addition to Toronto ahead of the US Open. The last time Serena played in both Canada and Cincinnati? 2015 as she prepared for her grand slam attempt. A few things have happened since then.
Serena Williams adds Western & Southern Open to pre US Open schedule

The fields were confirmed for the Western & Southern Open which is due to take place between Saturday 13 August - Sunday 21 August and will include Serena Williams in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A lot of debate post Wimbledon surrounded Williams and whether she would play further tournaments including her home Grand Slam, the US Open but that has now been answered.
In preparation for that, she has entered the National Bank Open in Toronto where she last played Bianca Andreescu in the 2019 final which saw the Canadian win by walkover before sealing the US Open.
But also she will play another WTA 1000 tournament and does the double for the first time since 2015 as she looks to head towards sealing a record breaking Grand Slam.
