With Wimbledon less than a month away, it appears the prestigious annual event will be miss two legendary WTA superstars in Serena Williams and Venus Williams.
Both ladies have been out of action due to injury for several months now, with Serena suffering a hamstring injury in her opening round match at the All England Club last year. Venus has also been dealing with nagging injuries, with the older Williams sister having not played since last summer.
Following the release of the Wimbledon entry list, neither Serena nor Venus' name was present. This implies that at the moment, neither is likely to participate at the event.
Serena, 40, could have entered the tournament using a protected ranking. Although she could still, however, request a wild card entry, but it seems deeply unlikely that she will return for the event. Assuming that the 23-time Grand Slam champion does not play anywhere else before or during Wimbledon, she will fall off the WTA rankings completely in July, having not competed in a full year.
Venus Williams did not enter Wimbledon, and as of now the five-time champ has not made her plans known.
