Nadal set to take a break after French Open, won't play Wimbledon

As per MARCA, Rafael Nadal will take an extended break after the French Open and will miss Wimbledon once again this year.

It comes as a blow to the tournament with ranking points recently stripped and with the likely World No.1, Daniil Medvedev banned from playing and Alexander Zverev pending a potential long term ankle injury, it could mean Novak Djokovic will lead the field at SW19.

He has not played in the tournament since before the pandemic and continues to manage his schedule to a chronic foot injury which has worsened in recent months.

He will go for a record setting 14th French Open and 22nd Grand Slam men's singles title on Sunday when he will play either Casper Ruud or Marin Cilic.

But this opens the door like alluded to for Djokovic or potentially the likes of Carlos Alcaraz to seal a Grand Slam singles title in a potentially depleted field.
