Alexander Zverev was playing an excellent match against Rafael Nadal but a choking tumble on the clay left him rolling his ankle and in severe pain.
It was a very good match between Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal with the battle lasting over three hours in the moment when it stopped. It was very late in the 2nd set with much tennis left to be played but Alexander Zverev rolled his ankle in a very frightening way at 6-5 for Nadal in the 2nd set. He screamed out in pain immediately with many people rushing over quickly including Nadal who had a very concerned look on his face.
Zverev was able to get back on his feet but he was unable to put any weight on his foot being carted off for the medical timeout. Replay showed a very severe extension of the ankle and after several minutes he returned with crutches being cheered on by the fans. He shook hands with Nadal effectively retiring. Hopefully, the injury is not as severe as it seemed and he will be back onto the courts quickly.
