Serena Williams kicked-off the 2021 season in style when she defeated Daria Gavrilova at the Yarra Valley Classic in straight sets while losing only 5 games.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion will now face Tsvetana Pironkova who showed a great come back last year, and is still unbeaten in 5 matches in 2021. However, after the match Serena Williams focused on her second-round performance, when she said:
"It feels good to be back here... I felt that I was definitely composed and in a zone and just trying to do the things I've been working on," Serena Williams said on-court after the match.
"It was a good match for me. It wasn't easy at all. It was lots of rallies and lots of movement, and she's from here, so she obviously always plays hard," the American added in her post-match press conference. "So it was really good and it felt good to clinch that in the end."
