Serena Williams has partnered with actor Michael B. Jordan to donate $1 million to a HBCU student, the winner of the Legacy Classic HBCU Startup Pitch Competition.
Williams joined forces with Jordan in an attempt to create opportunities for people of color, with the prize going to an innovative student at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
"It's really just about following people of color and women and giving them the same opportunities," Williams said during the live broadcast on TNT. "We did partner up with MaC Ventures, which is why we have Michael B. Jordan there, so we both together gave away that $1 million to HBCU alumni."
The former World No.1 has already established a legacy that transcends sports, and stated she would like to give back to the community.
"I started investing eight years ago, which is what I've been doing for a really long time," Williams said. "My dad always talked about planning and so while I'm playing tennis I'm still doing other things on the side. Ventures are something I've been passionate about."
The 23-time Grand Slam champion will not be participating at the 2022 Australian Open, having recently announced that she would be skipping the event following advise from her medical team.
