In the Australian Open quarter-final, the seven-time champion Serena Williams ousted world no. 2 Simona Halep 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 21 minutes to remain on the title course.
Serena controlled the pace against Simona, hitting 24 winners and 33 unforced errors and reducing the power from her opponent's strokes to dominate the shortest and most extended exchanges. Williams lost serve thrice and grabbed six breaks from 13 chances, enough to sail over the top.
Reaching the last four, Serena has accomplished some notable achievements, playing with the same desire over two decades after becoming a pro and still well-capable of beating even the world's best players. At 39 years and four months, Serena became the oldest Major semi-finalist since Billie Jean King at Wimbledon 1983, almost four decades ago!
Serena is also the third player with 40 Major semi-finals after Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, standing competitive over 20 years after reaching the first at the US Open 1999. Victory over Halep was Serena's 362nd at Majors, joining Roger Federer at the top of the charts as the most successful players in history.
