Emma Raducanu made tennis popular in Britain again as millions tuned in to watch her US Open final against Fernandez.
She won that match without many issues to cement her name in tennis history. Since then Raducanu became a global superstar with a tremendous amount of fans in her native UK. She's a polarizing figure wherever she goes and she made tennis popular among the youth again.
Former British player Laura Robson knows fully well what kind of impact Raducanu has because she was able to experience it firsthand. She explained:
“I did this interview with Wimbledon for a local primary school and asked the kids who was their favourite player and almost all of them said, Emma. It’s so cool. Just to have that inspirational figure to look up to. They all watched the US Open last year and they were looking forward to seeing her at Wimbledon and it is cool that in five years time, they will have watched Emma grow and they will be teenagers themselves by then."
She continued:
“There is no doubt that Emma has had a massive impact on young people. They see what she achieved at the US Open and they want to try and tennis. That is great for our sport.”
