Polish tennis player
Agnieszka Radwanska has questioned the
absence of the world number one
Iga Swiatek in the ongoing
Billie Jean King Cup
Finals.
The 22-year-old did not take part in the competition which
is currently taking place in the Spanish city of Sevilla where Italy and Canada
are playing in the final.
Radwanska was recently quoted in a report where she
questioned the absence of the Polish tennis star by stating: "She might
not even perform to support the girls or play at a lower level just to win. She
might not participate in all the meetings, but the most important ones. "As
for the places themselves, it could be done better. This is an individual
matter and Iga's decision.”
Swiatek has recently reclaimed the top spot in the ranking
after replacing Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka following her triumph in the recently
concluded WTA Finals. The four-time Grand Slam winner defeated America’s
Jessica Pegula in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-0.
That victory was a
continuation of positive results for the Warsaw-born who also won the China
Open in October following her win over Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova in straight
sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
