"She transcends tennis because she's so likeable" - Mats Wilander on Ons Jabeur

Ons Jabeur failed to realise her dream of winning Wimbledon but in the process, the Tunisian wowed many gaining loads of fans.
Ons Jabeur is a very popular player among her colleagues on the WTA tour and fans are starting to understand why. A diligent worker for years, Jabeur is only now reaping the benefits of her hard work. Her tennis is majestic to watch and she's gained a lot of fans during this breakout year. The Wimbledon campaign finished with a loss in the final but she will certainly have a chance to win it again.
Mats Wilander highlighted that after Wimbledon but also pointed out that her role in the tennis world is much greater than just playing tennis. He said:
“I have to say Ons Jabeur. Unfortunately, she didn't win, it was a good final, she lost in three sets of course to Rybakina. But she transcends tennis into the living room of North Africa, Tunisia, the African continent, but, in general, because she's such a likeable character."
He continued:
“She plays such great tennis, has great hands and it's just a different brand of women's tennis and tennis in general. So these are the kinds of personalities and players we need to grow our game and to push it into all the corners of our planet.”
Jabeur has certainly become a trailblazer for the African continent and Arab people in general. She embraced the role of a role model and hopes to inspire many from that part of the world to pick up a racquet.
